The whole story-line reminded me of a real-time review (multi-consciousness gestalt) of Dream Sickness and the need to gain places on the surface of our planet where you can be sure that what you are experiencing is a dream or not a dream etc (cf the Zoo area in Nemonymous Night and Area X or Southern Reach in Area X.)
